 Oregon Heritage

Assistance League of Eugene gives presentations and tours at the Lane County Historical Museum to Lane County third and fourth grade students during the school year. As students learn about Oregon history, they also develop an understanding of the forces that have shaped the present – and will affect the future – of Lane County. This project presently reaches over one thousand children annually. Oregon Heritage began in 1988 and has served over thirty thousand children and adults to date.

Excerpts from student thank you notes:

  • -My favorite part was knowing that I’m as big as a pioneer man
    -I learned that I am a giant
-I learned that people are tiney
-Thank you for showing us the old time life of the pioneers
-Thank you for teaching us about pioneers
-My favorite part was when we passed around the lard soap. It smelled like carmel
    -The wagon was really small
-The best part was when Kayleen put on the clothes
-It was very interesting to how the items are so similar to the things we have now but yet so different
-My favorite was holding all the pioner’s stuff
-I liked the most that you put squares of carpet for us to sit on
