The
members of Assistance League of Eugene offer friendship and entertainment
to residents of long-term care facilities in the Eugene area. Caring
and Sharing is one of the original projects of our chapter beginning
in the mid 1970’s. These visits occur 3 times a month and often
includes sing-a-longs. At special times of the year, the residents are
encouraged to participate in celebrating St. Valentine’s Day,
St Patrick’s Day, the 4th of July, Halloween and the holiday season.
These get-togethers have become very special to both members and residents.
This
project has served over 30,000 residents since its inception. Communicating
with older seniors has been a very rewarding and fascinating experience.
Everyone enjoys hearing about life at the turn of the twentieth century.
